So yesterday I was flying and went into one of the Intelligent Flight Modes screen.
I believe I clicked on Point of Interest.
I then was given a message that in so many words stated I need to turn GPS
on, on the phone.
The Phone I was using (as a test) was an old Samsung S5 and it has no cell
service at all only wireless plus I put it into Airplane mode so that it would
stop trying to search for cell signal to better my battery usage.

In any case my confusion lies in...do I need cell service (GPS) or not in order
to fully use "all" capabilities of the Mavic?
I just want to be sure what I truly need before planning my choice on devices
Thank you

I don’t believe it’s to do with the s5. It’s just the controller is not picking up any gps signals?

I think the only time you'll need GPS on your phone/tablet/device is when you're using Follow Me mode...not Point of Interest.
