Synchronized drone show at Tokyo olympics, very cool.

Awesome to see the capabilities of the technology that's out there. Very cool and I know I'd sure like to be involved with something like that !

The show is incredible but why does it
Say Tokyo 2020 on the sign in front of
Stadium?
Isn’t this 2021?

Perplexing isn't it ?
A Reuters news report I just saw also refers to Tokyo 2020 games.

I googled it and had the vague recollection it was postponed last year due to covid.
Seems strange to still refer to it as the 2020 games but must be so 2024 is not mucked up, ha ha.

That’s what I think as well..
Covid once again…

Very cool. Ive always been curious, does anyone know what drones they use to do this?

The Intel Premium drones – weighing just 340 grams, less than three-quarters of a pound – are specifically designed for entertainment purposes and are equipped with four LEDs that emit light that is true to colour and unmatched in brightness and vibrancy. Real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS also enables increased positional accuracy for higher resolution animations, sharper imagery and more dynamic 3D animations.

Wow! Great info, thanks.

Wow, cheers @Interficiam Stercore

Saw the Intel sticker, but never knew Intel actually made the drones, maybe just a sponsor / hardware supplier.
They sell the whole light show packages here, not cheap . . .

So, 500 drones is normally $299k, what would 1824 be worth !!
Most likely a sponsored thing in part, or the hired out the tech / team.

Edit. Oh heck, their pricing is just the shows ! You don't get to keep the drones !!

Also, some of their other specialised drones, muti rotor and winged . . .

Is this click-bait? Looks a lot like this thread is part of an obviously contrived marketing strategy. If so, it’s terrible, try harder! If not, it is almost completely devoid of any useful info.

It's not click bait. Click Bait to what end? The post just started because of the olympics and some people find these synchonizedd drone sytems interesting.

Here is some info though. The intel drones used all have RTK built into them in order to create a more accurate 3d model and reduce the risk of drones bumping into each other. RTK gives you centimeter accuracy, while no RTK only gives you 1 ft to a few feet accuracy. It's a big difference when trying to cooridinate thousands of synced drones.

I have a question. If this post is click bbait, what exactly does the original poster get from it? It's not an AD for anything. So what do people get from making click bait posts on this forum? I really don't know?

As a Worldwide TOP Partner, Intel will work with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to reimagine the future of the Olympic Games with new levels of fan interaction through leading-edge technology.
Intel became a partner with the IOC in 2017. The IOC and Intel announced Worldwide TOP Partnership through to 2024.
Intel, which is a TOP partner of the International Olympic Committee, plans to employ artificial intelligence-driven 3D tracking of athletes that will be used to augment Olympics television broadcasts

Follow up on my last post. Since intel became Top partner they introduced highly realistic augmented reality into many of the olympic games. The North Koreans who refused to wear bikini's in the sand volleyball tournament, were fined 13,000 dolllars. They wore shorts and shirts, But through INTELS augmented reality American's could enjoy the Koreans being seen in small bikini's and tops in realtime. JUST KIDDING. Thruthfully though, the N Koreans did get fines of 13,000 dollars for wearing "unapproved" garments.

Well if it's not, then fine. The links provided early in the thread however came from a 'news' service that was shot through with ads and was headlined "The man behind the spectacular show has explained exactly how the 1824 drones across the night sky..." If you click on the link, agree to the cookies (of course) and fight your way through the ads you discover there is in fact no such explanation. That link was designed as click bait, even if the poster to this forum may not have been aware of that. So annoying.

If I was running a media campaign to promote this new type of entertainment and raise public awareness I would be targeting all manner of relevant (and not so relevent) forums and social media outlets to generate public interest. It seems very likely this forum (amongst many others) would be a place to help generate discussion. Companies get paid a lot of money to stimulate public awareness in his way.

The whole point of these exercises is that they are supposed to be indistinguishable from genuine forum chat. On that basis I said it was terrible.

So that's the end such an exercise would be put to.

Anyway, if it's not click-bait, then that's great and thanks for the interesting additional info. Although I would say the pronoun 'Intel' does seem to have appeared a good number of times so far. I'm certainly now in absolutely no doubt that the Intel Corporation are in the drone game ;)
