Hi, I am an amateur drone operator in the UK. I took some drone footage of a friend's business and I have given him a copy for free so that he can use it on his UK business website. However, he believes that if drone footage is to be used on his commercial/business website it must be commercially obtained drone footage.

I am sure he is wrong and he can legally use amateur footage given to him for free on his business/ commercial website but can't find the regulation (chapter and verse) to prove I am correct. Any help would be great. Thanks.

As of Jan 1st this year there is no distinction in the UK of a "commercial" flight. It is all broken down into categories about what the aircraft is and where you are flying and risk.

See a good page at:

If you flew this year, and it was safe and legal to so then he's fine to use the footage and can even pay you without issue.
