Hey guys

Quick one. For 4k-24fps, Was practicing video with various (nd4 and nd8) nd filters and for each I was experimenting with various shutter speeds (1/100 and 1/50)

Is there any way from the video when I copy to my pc to know (I use da vinci resolve) which shutter speed I use? Can't see it in VLC

If I'm 4k-24fps should I always set my shutter to 1/50

Id be interested in your thoughts

Thanks.

If you turn on subtitles in the camera settings, you'll get subtitles in a *.SRT file that include the shutter speed and other information. VLC can display those subtitles.

If you didn't have subtitles turned on when you shot the footage, I don't think the shutter speed is recorded anywhere else.

When shooting video is the camera literally opening and closing a shutter?

No, the MA2 uses an electronic shutter for both video and still photography, as far as I know. The specifications section of the manual only lists "Electronic Shutter Speed: 8 - 1/8000 s", with no reference to a physical shutter.

Correct there is no physical shutter. Mechanical shutters are a thing of the very distant past but still used in real film cinematic cameras. More and more movies are being ‘filmed’ with image sensor based cameras such as those made by Arri & Red to name just two.

Actually, mechanical shutters are preferred on high end digital cameras. The Phantom 4 Pro has one. With panning movement and an electronic shutter, verticals (like light poles and such) will "bend" with an electronic shutter. Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 9.36.36 AM.png

Re shutter speed: Many recommend setting shutter speed at two times the FPS to achieve movement blur that appears natural to the eye.

Re: SRT files, any program that reads .txt files will open them. Beware they are voluminous: one file per one second of flight i think. They have some other interesting info, like latitude and longitude at each second of flight, and one can calculate fps from the files if need be

One subtitle for every frame!

Oh yea, more voluminous than I remembered. So at 50 fps, fifty files for one second of flight. BTW, I typically delete all but one SRT file per clip.

I use a small free program called mediainfo.
It gives information on any video such as bit rate, resolution and frame rate.

In regards to the "Video Subtitles" option, when it is enabled in the Fly app a file with the same filename as the video but with the extension "SRT" will be created. This single file will contain information for every single frame recorded in the video (there isn't a single file for each frame). coneslayer (post #9) included sample entries contained within the "SRT" file The file isn't that big, a 4:50 video produces a 2.477 MB "SRT" file for a 30 fps video. VLC Media Player has a subtitles option where you can include the "SRT" entries as a subtitle while the video is playing. This is a great way to view your exposure settings and altitude for a particular scene.

Can I please ask if it is possible to do something like the srt files in photo mode. I down loaded VLC player and did a test on a video and all worked ok. However how do I do the same with photos? I am only learning and this would be a great help I think to get me moving up to better photography..
Cheers

If you're looking for all of the info DJI attaches to a photo you should use a photo viewer or editor that will display "EXIF" information. One caveat with EXIF is it will not show the actual resolution for a "DNG" file. The reported "imageWidth" and "imageLength" is for the embedded low resolution "jpg" that is included in every "DNG" file. The following is the readout for a "DNG" photo from Irfanview.
