Why would you ever use WiFi mode?

The normal user won't need it. But in some situations it may be practical. E.g. if you want just have an extended selfie stick and don't want to carry more with you than absolutely required.
Guess the rare use cases is the reason why Wifi mode is not supported on Mavic 2, Mini and Air 2.

It was a marketing idea we could sell the drone without a controller for less money.
I don’t think it worked out so well.

Yep, sometimes you HAVE to be as light and compact as possible ! I just got a used Mavic Air to be able to put it in a small satchel on my road bike, couldn't do that with my Spark and the Mini 1/2 need that HUGE remote !
