5.8 is not enabled in many countries. Here in Kazakhstan we have to deal with 2.4 only and reduced transmission power on top. Luckily there s a simple tweak to enable it with old remote and iPhone. Not working on new remote though ((

Have found an interesting feature for my Mini3. I'm flying on a modified new remote with 2 external omni-directional 2.4Ghz antennas. CE mode, only 2.4 frequency available. So, I'm flying drone forward, back to me. 700m away (100m height) signal dropped to 2 bars, video stream start to lag...

Full 5 bars at 3000m in CE mode look impressive. Can/t wait for my 8dbi antennas to arrive now. Have attached connectors today ))

Have installed SMA connectors on a new Mini3 remote today. Waiting for antennas to arrive now. Signal tests will be done then. Looks clean, installation is very easy. Could be the easiest mod for Mini3 ))

I never go further than 2km away. But having reliable and interference-proof connection usually means longer range as well )) Thank you for your experiment. Will definitely follow once I have antennas on hands.

Do you mean stock foldable antennas from Mavis2pro remote give only 2 dbi gain? That's weird. I don't have VNA for 5.8Ghz range, so I totally rely on your data ))

It is not mandatory. But if I can get more out of my gear, I will definitely try to. It gives more reliability, convenience and if it’s easy to do, then I’m in. It is also fun, to squeeze some additional features out of devices. It’s like a sport itself. ))

From your experience, how sharp was the “radio beam” of your remote?

Can you recommend any relatively compact though efficient pole antennas for 2.4/5.8 with SMA connector? I was thinking about “native” mavic2 antennas as they are obviously tuned for those frequencies. But would appreciate your advice of better options.

Worst thing could happen if you lose your connection is the drone draining battery hovering on one spot and safely returning home. FCC users complain more just because they already have more units in country than CE users. And people like to complain. ))

Very simple answer. Having it hacked gives good opportunity to install FCC enabled Fly app, which increases connection stability, range and reliability of video-link. I believe this is something worth trying.

Did you try to point your remote to the drone? Were there any differences in the signal quality? BTW, which remote did you use?
