A Drone Flying Above The Clouds

Here's my two cents: Before I got my 107, I did not know about the 500/2000 ft rule for clouds. I also didnt know about the visibility rule, not withstanding the VLOS and 400 foot rule, and several more rules that apply to 107 pilots. If you are a hobbyist and you are not accessing 107...

    Drone for Yi 4k camera?

I had the Yi 360 and strapped it to the bottom of my M2Z. The results were less than satisfying because even though it had electronic stabilization, the video was still very shaky. I now have a Garmin Virb 360 and the stabilization is fantastic. Check out my test video here :

Any FPV racing drone guys around?

I highly recommend a sim like Velicidrone. FPV is alot harder than it looks (at least for me it is). I gave up trying to learn it. However, my son wanted one for Christmas so we got him one. I made him learn on Velocidrone for a few weeks before I let him fly the real thing. First time...

    Insurance? Needed it not?

There are 3 types of insurance that you can get for your drone (not including DJI Refresh) 1. Personal Liability: covers damage, injuries, etc. to property, people etc. while you're flying for hobby purposes. I am a member of the AMA and $75/yr gets you $2.5 million liability coverage...

Will the mavic air turn off while on air?

Rather than posting some snarky condescending comment, why dont YOU try reading the manual occasionally yourself? Right there on page 50. "Stopping Motors Mid-flight Stopping motors mid-flight will cause the aircraft to crash. The motors should only be stopped mid-flight in an emergency...

    Looking for a Drone

Only drones under $1000 that has your requirements are the Mavic Air and the Mavic Pro 1. There might be some others out there, but either they aren't very popular or they are cheap Chinese knockoffs.

    Just a thought

Incorrect. All drones between .055 and 55 lbs need to be registered and the drone must be labeled even as a hobbyist. It costs $5 and that one registration is good for all of your drones. Part 107 pilots (commercial drone pilots) also need to register each drone with an individual, separate...

    Just a thought

I printed my name, phone number, AMA#, FAA#s on a piece of paper, cut it into a small square and used clear tape to fix it to inside the battery compartment. I highly doubt one layer of paper and one layer of tape is going to keep the batteries from locking in place. And why people need to...

So, how do these supposed "scam" sites scam you if they accept PayPal?

So, I was actually going to go through with it and actually place an order. Not because I thought it was legit and I was actually going to get what is advertised but to actually document every step to produce a video on how these scams work. Sure enough, when I got to the checkout page, the...

So, how do these supposed "scam" sites scam you if they accept PayPal?

I just came across a site that is selling Mavics for unrealistic prices that seem that they are too good to be true, but, they accept PayPal. How would a scam work if they accept PayPal? The only thing I can think of is if you are scammed, you would still get your money back, but that money...

    Liability Drone Insurance?

It surprises me that there are that many people who are not aware of the AMA. $75/yr buys you $2.5 million liability coverage. I believe it is only for hobby flying and it is secondary to other liability policies that you may own (ie homeowners insurance) but it may be what you are looking...

Advertising deception or just plain ignorance?

So, I keep seeing this ridiculous ad: Wait. What? My Air certainly doesn't look like an Inspire! I don't know if this is plain ignorance or an outright deception, but either way, if a drone store doesnt know the difference (or is trying to deceive you) I am certainly not going to be buying...
