I am waiting for an approval for a LiDAR survey for a large sporting facility, and in order to add greater accuracy and the placement of features, I am thinking of making CGPs 500x500mm painted black and white, and placed at various points and features on the ground. Since I am providing the GCPs and placing them in place prior to the LiDAR survey, do these GCPs need to be located ie Lat/Long via RTK and RGPS, and is this something that the LiDAR survey providers could do?
The LiDAR survey people are providing me with raw data that I can drop into Trimble Sketchup, to do further terrain modelling, to get greater detail information on these features, for contours and spot levels. The 3D point cloud models being to scale allow me to measure heights, levels and distances, the aim is to produce cross-sectional drawings. I use Trimble Sketchup for my architectural projects as well, this aspect using 3D point cloud data is exciting.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
With thanks
Ben
