The current state of the drone job market

I should start by stating that I’m a Part 107 pilot, but if I was not, it’s even easier to just go to Best Buy and buy a drone and offer my service to my real estate friends. After all, most of them have no idea that there is a certification process for aerial imaging. IMO, this is why the...

    Enforcement of RID is extended

Thanks for pointing that out OMM. There is so much misinformation surrounding this topic. For Mavic 2 owners, this will provide a little wiggle room for DJI to maybe come up with a software solution to RID negating the need for a module. We shall see…

    Re-joining the drone life!

Hi Chris. The airspace over the park is controlled by the FAA, so the Park authority would ‘technically’ have no authority to deny operation in this airspace. You would just want to be sure you took off and landed from a legal flying spot. The FAA control is not to the ground however. Local...

    Re-joining the drone life!

CT Part 107 pilot here. Other than launching/landing from State Parks being off limits, there are no other State specific rules that I know of. Like all States, private property is just that, and without permission - ideally in writing - to operate from private property, this could be considered...

    C’mon case makers!

One important consideration regarding a case is to not buy the cheapest one. I am not an expert on the different grades of foam, but the cheaper versions degrade over a short time and become dusty which can get into the motors. I have found that the higher end cases don’t have this issue.

    Mavic 3 low level flying.

It can be done. But there is no minimum altitude that you can set. You just have to be really careful and have the copter in sight at all times - and people if you’re that low. The other concern is salt spray and the resulting salt deposits left internally. This can limit the life of your...

    rust

I have found that rust like residue on all of my drones around the prop hubs. I’m pretty sure that is not rust, but rather it’s residue from the motor’s copper windings. Whatever you do folks, do not put WD40 in/around your motors.

Mavic 3 Cine hit a tree

The only time I experienced what you describe was when I took off with my Phantom 4 years ago from the roof of my car. Several warnings then popped up while airborne regarding magnetic disturbance, and although I did get it down and safe, it only responded normally to vertical control, and any...

Any new speed records in the last two and a half years? More than 78.5MPH?

Very nice. It's fun. Sometimes just flying around gets a bit boring. I rarely use Sport mode on my M2, especially in high winds, and I know that sounds counterintuitive, but there is a reason. In P mode, the top speed is 31MPH. As such, I feel comfortable in steady state winds at/near that...

Any new speed records in the last two and a half years? More than 78.5MPH?

I shared this video here during April 2020. I had just remapped some of my Mavic 2 Pro's flight setting to allow for selecting ATTI mode in lieu of Tripod mode, and the weather/winds were perfect for doing a speed run. Short version of the story, and reason for re-posting. I saw a top speed...

    FAAST Seminar, Shoot down question.....

I would say that this rep was kind of right. If we are talking shooting at a UAV and only damaging it, the FAA would very likely refer that to local LE. If the UAV then fell and caused serious injury or death, the FAA would involve themselves in the investigation, and they would surely apply...

    8 inch tablet

Keep in mind during your search that the maximum Live View from your drone is 1080p. As far as 4K, that would only apply to viewing actual video that was filmed in a 4K resolution if you wanted that capability, but I’m sure that would raise the price a bit. I have always used iPads, but it...

Are drones really any threat to aircraft when we consider the weights of common birds?

I'm a fixed wing pilot as well with 6000+ hours spread between small, single engine aircraft and corporate jets. I have experienced multiple bird strikes over the years, and for the most part, the result has only been a bit of a mess on the leading edge of the wing. Birds tend to be soft and...

    Ordered One

This of course, is a discussion/debate that could go on and on, and although I fully respect your opinion - and would encourage you to operate your UAV as you have and are used to - here is my issue with 'Obstacle Avoidance Sensors'. Traditional aviation has always adhered to what I will refer...
