It may not be quick, but it certainly can be significant. Barometric altimeters work by measuring atmospheric pressure. The altimeter never really knows actual altitude, it only knows how to measure pressure. Pressure varies with altitude...

Yup, exactly. I put the brake mode on, and instead of the drone gaining altitude and fluttering when the sensors´sensed´an obstacle, the drone started and stopped a series of accelaration and decelerations, all at a constant altitude.

I don't think there is unwanted stuff in the motors. Yes!! the gimbal damage was from a repair I had to do the gimble when I was in the Amazon in Brazil. Perhaps yes, the sensors have had a knock and they malfunction a bit...
