Good eye, you are exactly right. I use a good GPS unit with satellite imagery and the drone comes in extremely handy to scout over the edge. I've witnessed first hand a cornice break and a friend disappear over a cliff. He ended up OK with a couple broken ribs, but he was extremely fortunate!
You can crop closer in post to minimize or even correct distortion with the GoPro software. In this case it's more about pulling a large amount of scenery in frame and less about an accurate shot.
Fixed wing mode is a lot of fun with the DJI goggles on. I can fly much faster with the RC plane and it gives a unique perspective with the wings/prop in view. No ND filter on the GoPro. It’s an older hero 4 so no stabilization either.
My wife got a several great shots with the Mavic this afternoon! I mounted a GoPro on the RC plane and you can pick out the Mavic zipping by in a couple of the shots.
It was a great day to head down to the beach for some winter flying. I was at the controls of the Hangar 9 Valiant so I had a buddy grab some shots with his Mavic.

I've had my little Phantom 3 Advanced in some very intense winds on a mountain top job in remote Alaska. These little machines from DJI handle adverse conditions very well. The gimbal on the Phantom series does seam to stabilize the camera better in rough conditions. I had to edit around quite a...
The Flying Saucer design has less planing area than many skiffs of comparable length. Those nice lines and lower sides sacrifice a little in utility but she sure is pretty:)
