I know I'm a bit late but, you mention flying during sunset so (just technically) you may have been possibly violating the "flying during civil twilight" rule. These days it's around 8pm until 8:30pm. Technically you need to have anti-collision lights. I know it's a little detail but had to...
Hi, as far as KittyHawk colors go for an airport grid; the darker green indicates that authorizations up to 400 ft are possible, lighter green-300ft, yellow-200ft, orange-100ft, red is 0ft.
Got the info from their tutorial:

Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely check the sectional and Airmap/KittyHawk in preparing to go and while I'm there. Disappointing but not unexpected that Big Sur would be no joy, but I was hoping local knowledge would steer me to the secret places.
I'm going to Monterey and then Oakland in September. I would like to bring my M2P and fly some while I'm there. I'm particularly interested in flying in Big Sur. I'm in North Carolina and all state parks here prohibit taking off and landing in state parks. I don't know anything about California...
I used the Gold Seal course too. I went to the website and signed up for the free sample lessons. A couple weeks later I received an email with an offer for 100 dollars off so I bought it. The course worked for me (I scored 100 on my recurrent). Im pretty sure nothing was on the test that the...
I guess Im a little late here but from what I understand: The firmware update that I just did on my SC, which said it was adding dual controller ability, didn't add dual controller ability. Right?
Hi photopro,
If I were purchasing a used MP I would carefully look at the aircraft for any damage (as in crash damage). I would look around the propeller arms for any stress cracks. The camera and gimbal are delicate, I would inspect this area for any issues.
When I sold my MP I offered to fly...
Going to DIX again today. This is the only place that I go to fly these days. The only place that I feel "comfortably legal". But, it's getting a bit stale/boring. I see lots of videos from falls lake but, is that a legal place to fly? I thought that it is a state park. Same with Jordan lake...
I seem to remember/forgot something about the use of an observer for operating out of LoS. Not sure if it was a way to justify an authorization or if it could be used without authorization required.
Oh man, I need to study if Im going to renew my 107.
I'm only familiar with the DJI drones (Phantom 3S and Mavic). I see a lot of posts from people wishing DJI had some "real" competition. What is the better drone? I'm interested in knowing.
