Sounds like it was a bad drone (built on a Monday). The Mini over the canyon was believed to be an airflow issue (air in the canyon).

With no light, night shots will be difficult (with any camera). If there is some light, you could play with the camera settings - and see if that helps. I'm not certain if the Mini 1has manual settings - but I know the Mini 2 does...

From everything I've understood, a 107 doesn't change the rules when you're flying as a hobbyist. It does affect any commercial / 'business' flights.

People flying over canyons and such are most likely not flying within VLOS and in the event of a problem, the pilot would be at fault.

Hobbyists are limited to 400' AGL. 107 pilots can get a FAA waiver that allows them to go above the 400' limit (and they are still limited - just to a different height). They also have to file showing what they're doing and when - as they are potentially an air hazard, thus giving them...

I believe his issue was related to the canyon and the 'river of air' that passes through it. He wasn't expecting that. Think of a river and how the water moves in the middle vs how the water moves on the edge.

New user to the forum .. flying in from Maryland. I've been flying a Mini 1 since March and now a Mini 2. I'm not new to the RC world and not really new to flying RC - though it is the newest branch of the RC tree. :) I hope to be able to learn and share with you all.
