    MA: Drone Flyers Chime In

Most of Boston is within 5 miles of Logan airport so you would need to contact ATC for recreational flying. It is also very crowded down there so the whole not flying over people thing is really tough. Also there are TFRs whenever there is an event at Fenway. It can be done but it is a hassle...

Proper procedure for notifying an airport of UAV operation within 5 miles

That and knowing the rules because you had to study the crap out of them

    Recreational vs Commercial Airspace Question

As a RECREATIONAL pilot, you do not concern yourself with air space classification. You must notify all airports within 5 statue miles. As a COMMERCIAL, Part 107, pilot, you only concern yourself with airspace classification. You must receive permission to fly in class B, C, D and E airspace...

I got an 88% using youtube and the faa study guide only.

    Part 107 test passed

The simple reason of being a safer pilot suffices in my mind. The single most beneficial reason for me is the ability to fly in class G airspace (non-towered airport) without notifying ATC or the Airport. As far as flying POV with the goggles...this is allowed as long as you have a visual...

    Newbie question about airport notification

If you are flying in the US as a RECREATIONAL pilot, within 5 miles of an airport (towered or non-towered), you must notify the airport and/or ATC. You do not need them to authorize your flight. The only regulating body that can give authorizations is the FAA. Per FAA regulation, max altitude...

Thanks for the quick reply. I just got off the phone with the Hansom Air Field management office. It seems for recreational flight they will need to give authorizations not just receiving the notification. They said to just leave a message but to do it prior to your flight to give them time to...

I don't believe just leaving a voicemail will cover you. I work in Waltham and have had some luck at Gore Place. I don't think you are required to inform heliports like hospitals and new stations, just airports.

Because Newton is full of uppity yuppies that are more concerned about their illusion of privacy. I am in the process of registering there since I don't see any way around it and I want to fly in Newton.

    Massachusetts

Hi Jerryflah, Mark. I'm in Boston, which is very limited for flying locations. I've had my Mavic since November and took it out every day I could until the weather turned. I have about 50 flights now and am cramming for the Part 107 test. I hope you've gotten yours by now JerryFlah...it is an...
