Nosing around the FAA site there is a statement of what the current date they are working on. Look on the menus and it will give you a ballpark timeframe.
Another possible cause is solar flares, we have been going through a high cycle and it has caused radio blackouts. Spaceweather.com can keep you alerted to them. Just a thought....
Switching my new mini 3 P from it's RC to the mini 2's N1 I would get the firmware message and seemed to do an upgrade/change going between the two drones. Allowed the 5 times so for an emergency it would be OK but a pain to switch otherwise. Just using the RC with the 3 and the N1 with the 2.
I do not put the drone / controller / battery case into the bag unless they have their memory, charge or accessories. Just need to remember charging before planned sessions. Spare memory kept in a couple areas just in case....
If doing a mission near an airport some of the information would be important but it does seem a bit over the top. How many of us are actually flying near airports?
I am on my second mini 2 replacement and got it on my mini 3 pro too. Keep a finger over the "pause" button when ever you are doing any automated flying (Litchi / quickshots) and look to verify you are actually over it, ask me why I say that...
Another option is to buy a USB SD chip reader. I use it to read the micro or standard chips (from my camera) and will work with USB A or USB C ports. Handy if you want to view on a tablet or phone too.
