Yes; but you need to make sure the RTH altitude is set to where you want it, generally rather high to ensure not hitting any objects as it returns....

You can be certain there is a new better one around the corner. I have not heard any official statements of such, but we all know it's coming, just a matter of when. My guess would be near the end of this year at the soonest, more likely middle of next year.

Generally not a problem. The beaches that front the hotels are public. Probably a good idea to launch as away from people as possible, don't fly low over people; you go up a couple hundred feet you'd be unnoticeable, able to fly over the resort, up and down the beach, without anyone the wiser...

I really doubt the bird was fully submerged; more like landed on the water and got wet underneath; the gimbal was likely covered in water, for maybe 5 seconds (which can be a long time for electronics in salt water!), enough to get water inside around the gimbal, where there's some electronics...
