Thanks Jet skier! I have found that small movements of the gimbal is critical... you can lower the sensitivity of it in the options. Also just to start practicing the gimbal moves, just by circling around the subject using the preset modes. You can then start changing the elevation manually...

Me too! All along the Embarcadero there are some safe spots to take off, I usually go out on one of the piers and take off from the edge to avoid flying over and scaring people.
