well, look at the construction of the Mavic. you have air intake right behind the gimbal. If you put hinders in front of those, air will just not flow as designed. You may have also heart that the Mavic has a cooling fan. But anyway, fly with it if you like, not my Mavic, not my pictures :-)

You mentioned that you had the gimbal protection during the flight. It shouldnt be on since it blocks the air intake cooling the electronics. Could it be that Overheating damaged something?

It's a known issue with the render files in FCPX. Search for removing those on the web.

Taking a drone on a plane is authorised, as long as the policy of the specific Airline doesnt say something else. With regards to batteries, you can take as many as you want as long as they are below 100W (which is the case for the Mavic) and max 2 from 101-160W.
