I must admit I don't see the big fuss... this is DJI's solution to the recent overturning of the FAA registration rule. It's absolutely their right to do this if they want to, and if you don't agree with it, you don't have to buy it (of course that gets a little iffy since we didn't know this at...
I'm convinced it was standard flight mode not being able to handle the wind. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and I was above the tallest objects (trees) for miles (it's a big forest), so there's no way I would have lost GPS after take off (and yes I ensured I had good GPS health and a home point...
Agreed. I think something needs to be moving, but it doesn't necessarily need to be the Mavic. Some of my favorite shots are looking straight down at waves on the beach (waves washing in and out create the "movement") or at a safe distance from an intersection (not over the intersection)...
I also mainly use sport mode to fight wind or cancel an intelligent flight mode if my app crashes. maybe 10-15% of the time I'll get a backward or sideways sport mode clip because it looks kinda cool at that speed for certain things. flying forward can result in props in the image though.
Sport...
Ah ****, that's super obvious now that I think of it. I bet it even would have been fine in standard mode but with obstacle avoidance turned off. Thanks!
I don't know why updating the firmware would have an effect on this, but I didn't notice any app crashes during 2 flights after updating (4.0.7 on android). Granted I did also clear my video cache before going out, but on my first ever flight (thus an empty video cache) on .400, I got several...
I'm not going to make any claims since this is the first time it's happened (though I haven't been in situations that would have reproduced it very well previously), but I noticed some odd behavior the other day... I went to a forest to do a mix of filming the tree canopy as well as some...
I keep mine in a lowepro photography bag with my DSLR, couple lenses, and filters. I can fit the entire fly more combo in the bag (obviously not the DJI bag, but all the accessories). My tripod straps in on the bottom of the backpack so It's basically a full on photography setup that I can...
I agree that the pilot was being stupid, but man is that story sensationalized. If the gimbal had made it "into the motor" then the car wouldn't be running. And a fatality? really? I'm pretty sure you could fly the mavic straight into someone's face in sports mode and, it would hurt like hell...
I hope the next drone comes with a sim slot. I hate the idea of having to have yet another thing that I need to charge, make sure works, attach before take off, etc etc. I suppose I could probably wire something to the PDB on the Mavic but it'd feel like blasphemy modding such a beautiful...
@DSGDSG Definitely agree with some points there. Actually, considering how easily "fear legistlation" could have been utilized for drones, I'm surprised there wasn't more of. It gets me thinking of things like the airport scanners (especially the ones for leaving). What has that really...
I hate to drop the old online "well I'm an XXX so I know", but I WAS an android developer (switched teams about a year ago). At this day and age, you really can't blame android's hardware/software for this. Yes, if you run DJI GO 4 on a $40 walmart phone it's not going to be an amazing...
It's a fine line to balance. Following rules means you're less likely to end up with new and more severe regulations. My original Phantom could fly in NFZ. Was I an idiot that flew a block away from an airport? no. I flew under 50 feet around my apartment complex. I was super excited that I got...
