D Log M (with Auto ISO) Superior to D Log

IMO LUTs are not the best approach. They’re fine if yr in a rush or are inexperienced or quality is not the main goal but there’s no substitute for understanding your tools, skilled retouching and colour correction in the hands of an expert (which BTW is not me)

D Log M (with Auto ISO) Superior to D Log

The dynamic range of the camera should not have anything to do with your exposure settings. Whether you set auto iso, auto shutter, auto aperture you are always vulnerable to a bright light automatically changing the exposure, so the first thing should be to set everything to manual including...

    Battery overheating

Meta4, presumably when you swapped batteries the problem disappeared, i.e. it is a specific battery fault?

    DJI self-heating battieres

Yes I had them on a Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced. They seemed like a good idea at the time living in Montreal where batteries have to be warmed for 3 to 4 months of the year. However, they take a while to heat up which was always a pain. So I stopped using them and found that just stuffing all...

    Resolution ?

Thanks GG, something that makes side by side comparison tricky is the excessive (IMO) sharpening added by DJI. I suppose they aim to make it the best right out of the camera but is it the same across the 3 cameras.

    Resolution ?

GadgetGuy is right by the numbers but I expect, few could tell the difference. I only have the 3 Classic so can’t test this but if you’re comparing cameras on the 4Pro, you have a very high quality state of the art 100mp 4/3 sensor (yes I know its a 25 mp quad bayer sensor so not fully 100 mp...

    What's Skydio been up to?

F10 is not aimed at the consumer market, clearly for specific commercial or military applications (most likely the latter). Nothing new, drones have been developed for the military for decades. Like all technology, its become smaller, relatively low cost which now attracts players like Skydio as...

    magnetic shielding

Agree with Faran381, I had to photograph an artistically tiled floor inside a new University building in Montreal and the rebars in the concrete floor created a compass error. Multiple restarts with the same error. I mounted a small wooden, 1’x1’ platform onto a carbon fibre camera tripod and...

Introducing MavenRoute – A New Web Mission Planner for DJI Drones

Your video does show sharing of missions developed on a desktop being transferred to the drone correct?

Introducing MavenRoute – A New Web Mission Planner for DJI Drones

Looks fantastic, love the terrain following feature and the ability to plan on a desktop in advance then transfer to the drone. (Reminds me of the now sadly defunct Autopilot). Does it avoid terrain obstacles like tall antenna, wind mills etc info available on VFR sectionals? I’m guessing we...

    Scam alert: Mavic 2 Pro

Odd, the Mavic 2 Pro seems to attract jerks. I’ve tried several times to sell my M2P on Kiji & Craig’s List without success and I’ve had to withdraw the ads each time. I get people in distant places asking for it to be shipped with payment later, payment by PayPal (where they can claim it was...

    Affinity goes free...

I don’t like the corp. Adobe, but having lived as a pro photographer (less so today), I can tell you there is nothing to beat Lightroom and Photoshop, especially today with the AI features. When time and quality are priorities, they are unbeatable.

Do I need an ND filter for Mavic 4 Pro?

A small correction, ND filters are used for still photography, often in order to get a soft blur on water falls, rapids and sea scapes. There are many reasons to use ND filters and polarizers for artistic reasons. And with the amazing ability of modern drones to hold position, a slow shutter...

UK military shooting down UAVs now...

Wait ‘til FIFA World Cup 2026, you’ll see the National Guard popping drones out of the sky like Grouse on the Glorious Twelfth.

    Counter-drone program for World Cup?

I like the statement “They have an amazing potential for both good and ill. We will increase the enforcement of current laws to deter two types of individuals: evildoers and idiots—the clueless and the careless.”
