You will learn to trust the equipment as you practice more. Birds have never been an issue for me at any height. Just make sure flying conditions are safe. Good luck and have fun!
You probably don’t need to calibrate it every time, but I do anyway because I don’t want to see my $1000 drone fly away because I didn’t want to take 30 seconds to calibrate it

Yes, but the mavic. They are at real good prices these days. I get around 13000 feet with stock antennas when flying with no interference. Otherwise you may loose connection around a mile or less with lots of interference. Overall great drone. Worth the money
Everybody flies it out beyond VLOS at some point. Most people do it every flight. Stock antennas can do it just fine. I get 13000 feet quite easily with stock antennas and little interference.
