I think most DJI drones are connected to the internet at one time or another so I'm not sure your thesis holds. But I think the most valid concerns apply to government agency use that is quite extensive.

It seems to me that the surest way to increase flight time or speed is to rebuild the aircraft and batteries with ultra light materials. A complete tear down and analysis of the airframe would give insight into where the greatest gains are to be made. I wonder if the heat sink could be lightened...

Which phone are you using? I had a problem similar to this with my iPhone 6s Plus. It turned out that I needed to re calibrate the battery low voltage sensor because I typically didn't discharge it below 10%. Here is the post here: iPhone Issue Help? Random Power Down
