Should phone and battery get really warm?

More likely than not. That’s why the drone has a built in fan.

Yep. Battery and drone get warm in flight. Quite normal.

I find my iPhone to get much warmer than normal any time I'm on a camera mode for more than a few minutes, including with no drone in use.

Yes, warms up quite a bit. Has never been a problem even after swapping battery and continuing to fly.

That is normal. The drone will give you a warning when is extremely hot.

When high capacity batteries which are discharged (used) at a high rate as drones do then they get warm to hot.

My phone gets hot during a long flight but I have a tired iPhone 7 Plus. I once received a heat warning on my MavMini when I was downloading and editing files with the drone turned on and sitting on the table. After a long flight my battery is warm, too.
