Texas man catches 9.5-foot tiger shark with the help of a drone

Good to see the shark was released, a bit more growing to do yet.
Drone fishing is pretty popular here in Australia.
Phantoms seem to be the pick for a decent sized bait and just as important handling the flight out with line load / wind factors, the Mavic Pro not far behind.

Phantoms and Inspires are popular fishing drones. Now newer waterproof drones capable of much higher loads are replacing them..especially for shark fishing with large baits. I’m flying a Gannet Pro for 3 kilo loads, the Pro + model can handle 5 kilo loads. That’s BIG bait for BIG fish.

Catch and release is kind of a myth in that in the battle really stresses and hurts the fish. A lot don't survive. Better to shoot for pelagics like tuna and mahi-mahi. This one will be lucky to survive with it baking in the sun and sands washing through its gills. How would you like to be beached and have a bunch of clowns taking your photo while sand pours down your lungs? Tiger Shark Galeocerdo cuvier has most recently been assessed for The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2018. Galeocerdo cuvier is listed as Near Threatened with populations trending downwards. This was a young shark. Hope it makes it to maturity so it can reproduce. It is just getting close now depending on if it is male or female.

Like fishing a little further out with a drone is what makes people A-holes and is screwing the planet. Get real.

Wow that's a sinker, why so negative on fishing drones, are you still stuck trying to cast past the breakers, what's a fishing drone got to do with screwing the planet ?
What's different than using a drone compared to a boat or surfcaster, still fishing,do you prefer canned fish that you dont know what sort of fish it is ,get real
Fishing drones is the least of our worries, no it's not nice bein dragged up the beach with sand in the gob but fish you catch in those areas have been eating sand for years and well adapted to disperse it if released back into the sea ⚓🐳

Tiger sharks are open ocean pelagics that hunt in surf zones at times but are not adapted to getting gills clogged with sand. Nothing wrong with surf fishing. I suspect this guy wasn't fishing for a tiger shark but should have cut the leader and released it immediately when he saw what he brought in. He did the shark no favor hauling it up and dragging it around to get his Instagram shots and everyone else's before letting it go. Just the act of releasing the fish does not mean he handled the situation responsibly.
