Home button issue

Yesterday while flying over a forest near my house I got a high Wind warning. I hit the home button to bring it back but the drone just dropped down immediately, crashing into the trees. Any clue why that happened?

How far away from the home point was the drone when you applied return to home? If it was overhead, that would explain why.

What type of drone were you flying?
As asked above, how far from home point was it?
