The original qustion that re-activated this thread was about the new privacy laws. How do they influence drone video and foto.
To get the context: Untill a few years ago, Sweden had extremly open rules on photography. Litterally EVERY place that was accesable for the public was also open to photographers with the argument "no privacy in public". This cuased a problem, then public accesable bathrooms where not expemt from the rules. That changed a few years ago (which was absolutly fine), but caused another problem for dronepilots: Cameras connected to drones where considered to be "surveilance cameras" and needed aproval BEFORE being used. That was corrected last year, peace was re-installed.
Untill the European Data Protection came into effect: Then, at that was the base for the question, people became insecure.
My response to the question, after just filming and photographing for three weeks in Sweden, was: For drones you have the same rules regarding privacy as for other photographers: Don't film in bath- and dressingrooms!
Another answer refered to the requierement to get a permit prior to publication by the lantmäteriet. This permit is issued without a problem after you uploaded the footage to them and they see there is no information concerning the national defense of Sweden in it. Though this is not directly related to privacy, it is an important information for dronepilots from abroad. I filed 21 requests over a three week period, uploaded up to 2 GB data per request, and got permits issued within 5 to 6 working days (the fastest was 24 hours, the slowest took 6 days). No fees are charged, you get the answer per email and then, more specific, with the old fashioned mail.
In regard of privacy, I explained that if I saw people at a spot I wanted to fly, I informed them about what I intended, gave them a card with my name and email and offered them acces to a copy of the video after it was released by lantmäteriet. I got very positiv responses to this, some nice new contacts and a few coffee.
Any more questions about what we spoke about in swedish?
