Related to airline travel:

You had to go to the airport to make a reservation and buy the tickets (I don't remember when there were no reservations required and payment was taken in the air). When you were departing, a family member could go onboard and help you but had to depart before the plane left. I don't recall the screening but it was minimal at my airport. If you had a seat in the back, you likely walked thru a thick cloud of cigarette smoke. Flew on the likes of TWA, Eastern, Braniff, and PamAm. I remember when the people waiting for you to arrive (non-passengers) were standing at the gate to meet you and could see you coming down the jetway or going down the steps off the plane. And of course, you had a pocket full of American Express travelers cheques because a guy named Karl Malden told you not to leave home without them!
