How long do you think it will be before a computer program decides to build its own UAVs, using 3D printing and/or other techniques?

its probably a reality now somewhere in some campus lab

I just searched online for "robots building robots" and found this article from last year:

whether it builds its own uav's or not, if a computer program were to go rogue, it could update all the DJI drones at once and command them however.

may I propose a little exercise in imagination?

fast forward just a little further .. when semi- or fully-autonomous humanoids or other forms of robots are roaming sidewalks and roads and dirt paths in most cities and municipalities around the world..

(warning: nightmare scenario ahead)

when they all at once do the bidding of some unknown software signal in some unknown, encrypted, unmitigatable software program acting out non-human code, buggy or not.

if the following two links were algebra, and you added one to the other, it's just one equation to show how fast things could go wrong if all these robots suddenly, for no conceivable reason, went bonkers .. what kind of equations do you see being played out in the algorithmic dreams and whims of not one but myriad rogue ais and flying/rolling/walking/hopping/magnetizing robots?

...a problem with technology, which is a fancy word for tools, is not always with the people who make it and use it first-hand, but the ones who steal it, warp it, and reproduce it in other ways outside of the parameters made inherent in the do-gooder's version of the tech. the problem is with the human intent, but with software, the problems become exponentiated / abstracted into the foreseen and unforeseen known and unknown with a different intensity and scale than any other sort of problem we have found ourselves to toil with in human existence.

these are topics that are currently being discussed by rich people around board room tables, and when they are seen talking about the future, they seem to be shades pale, with a look of death in their eyes, because they know what's coming, and they don't know how to stop it.

I think more people should be having these discussions.
