Several threads on Chinese Ban across the sUAV Forums, and opinions flowed of pro & con.

Jump forward a year and the enactment appears to be poised to fall flat, the Committee between the 2 Congressional Houses has Rejected the Ban on Chinese Drones and electronic parts within Drones. The

Some interesting Articles on the Rejection of Ban:

Makes sense, a ban against consumer drones because they might be a possible espionage tool seems pointless. Where there is potentially more merit on prohibiting certain hardware from being in mobile communication and computing hardware (ie: servers that control all our data communication etc).

Though I feel like that if they're going to take such measures for reason of "national security", it could be a bit less xenophobic on what country exactly is the target of a ban and rather truly "foreign entities", but only in context of where it matters (ie: if there was a backdoor or ability to compromise said product, would it greatly impact our infrastructure?).

But course I'm sure money plays a huge role in it more so than security.

The real problem was this:
unmanned aircraft, or any component thereof for use in such a drone or unmanned aircraft, that is manufactured or assembled by a covered foreign entity, including any flight controllers, radios, core processors, printed circuit boards, cameras, or gimbals.”

Parts - try building a drone with no Foreign parts.

So as you can see it was never a ban on Chinese drones or DJI drones it was a ban on all drones.
