A few years (138 but who is counting...) before WW1, the thirteen colonies got their underwear in a twist over a tax on tea. They kinda left the empire then.......???

And 238 give or take years later, the union jack is still in the corner of their flags.
Well not Canada or Isle of Mann and a bunch of others, but Australia, NZ still retain it for some reason

I guess we could have changed our flag when we replaced God Save the Queen with Advance Australia Fair as our national anthem in the early 80’s.....
