Disheartened

Similar problem in the UK. Thats why grey market from China is so popular.
Its also why i buy all my electronics in Asia. If its expensive its actually CHEAPER to fly to asia and back and buy than it is to buy from a UK retailer!
yep I just checked on webjet. I can fly to Hong Kong and back to Brisbane for around $500

Here in New Zealand, just over the ditch from Australia, we also get hammered by taxes as well as a weak dollar against the US.
Mavic 2 Zoom price is $2299.00.
Mavic 2 Pro is $2699.00.
If you want the fly more combo add another $600 on top.
Our petrol price for 95 octane is $2.50 per litre. $7.05 per gallon.
Our average income is lower than Australia as well. I live in Auckland which is outrageous in its prices.
So it makes for a very hard time justifying why I should upgrade from my Mavic Pro Platinum.
Being into photography though I do understand the benefits of picture quality against what I currently own.
I will end up buying the Mavic 2 Pro. Just not yet.

I don't understand why you all haven't revolted and hung your leaders yet.

Because at the end of the day we have higher base pays, government provided medical services and a welfare system only bettered by Scandanavian countries. We are rich in natural resources, low in pollution and well away from the rest of the world tearing itself apart based on religious idioms. I'll pay 3 grand for MP2 and I'm staying here!

You can always buy the old model or wait a year for a price drop. If something is beyond my price range, I don’t moan.

Well, bravo for you.

No, you don't moan. You drop unsolicited nastiness on people who happen to live where prices are higher.

Thank goodness for your helpful input.

Howdy from Wyoming @Baron Pants , welcome to the community, plenty of fine folk and excellent information here. I am sorry to hear it is so expensive, that is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a toy unless you are very well off. I can understand you feeling disheartened.
I'd hardly call it a toy.

There is the GST of 10% For those socialist programs and then there is the Australia tax.

Unfortunately they are not the same.

Look at petrol prices. How much do you pay per gallon? I filled my car up yesterday and it’s was $1.71 per liter which is about $6.47 per gallon.

We get gouged on prices on pretty much everything and it sucks.

There are instances where it is cheaper for us to fly to another country buy the product and fly back.

I moved from Tokyo to Adelaide and my grocery bill & general cost of living was higher in Australia than Tokyo. OZ is a very expansive place to live. When I left OZ, I sold my SLK350 and for the money would have been able to by a new current model in the UK. Your Trades Unions are pushing up prices with the crazy wages and conditions their members want plus the fat cat union bosses live high on the hog.

If you are new to quad copters (As I am) try the Mavic Air. - it is an impressive bit of kit and unless you want to do serious photography, it does excellent video and good photos.

We pat 20% VAT (like your GST) here.

Hi,

I have been lurking around these forums for a long time reading advice as I saved up to get my first mavic drone.

I have been eagerly awaiting this new drone so that I could get the latest tech but ( Mod Removed ) the zoom is $1999 for just the drone and the fly more package is another $802 but is wonderfully on sale for $549.

The pro 2 is another $300 above the zoom.

In case you didn’t guess given the crazy price I live in Australia and the price moves this well out of reach.

Can’t help but feel disheartened.

Prices on eBay are dropping like a rock for the Mavic Pro.

I love my Mavic pro. I had to wait 4 months for it to arrive. I won't buy another DJI product though, not all because of the price, but more to do with all the sign in before you fly and DJI wanting to know where you're flying and all that sort of stuff. And all the DJI no fly zones, that aren't no fly zones! Have you considered the Parrot Ananfi or whatever it is they call it? It's foldable, has a camera with a lossless zoom and as far as I know, is NFZ free. They leave it up to your common sense to fly it in an appropriate manner in an appropriate place, which is how it should be.

I’ll quickly confess that I haven’t read through any responses to this thread therefore, forgive me if someone else has provided a similar response. If you can’t comfortably afford this, you’re getting involved in the wrong hobby or perhaps looking at the wrong drone to fit your budget. You take great risk each and every time you fly one of these which might last you 1 flight or 1000, many variables, perils etc can cause the money spent to vanish in an instant.

I use DigitalRev in the UK who due to declaring customs duty really badly work out 25%+ cheaper than buying in the UK. They're a massive operation and have been going for years.
Might be worth looking at those to see if its similar with Australia?

I saved $750US on a camera lens recently ordering from them. Still got it in 2 days.

Failing that, get a cheap budget flight to KL and go spending mad there!

You can fix all the issues you mentioned with NLD from NoLimitDronez (dot) com, and it's pretty inexpensive. That stuff has been taken care of for almost a year now.
DJI keeps trying to block it, NLD keeps improving. :D

MavicPilots is behind the curve informing members of all these advances because until fairly recently such topics were utterly banned here while other sites explored, modded and helped each other. But MP is catching up a bit. Thumbswayup
