So I had a little mishap with my Mavic Pro first gen, got a little too cocky with my flying too soon and crashed it. Not a far fall. Broke the vibration mount on the camera gimbal. The two little screws and the ear that hold it in place. So I head up to the dji store that’s new to me to see what my options are, now mind you I’ve already looked up replacement parts etc. just was a little confused. Was told by salesperson that it’s probably not worth fixing it and I should just buy a new one, cuz parts aren’t available. But come back tomorrow and talk to the specialist! So I go home bummed and look further st the damage. 8$ part. 8$!!! Dude wanted me to spend 1200$ or more on a new one cuz it isn’t worth fixing? Sorry for the rant was just irritated as hell.

Capitalism at its finest.
Maybe he’s new to the system or just taking orders from his boss.

He said they could take it in and send it out for repairs. But it probably not worth it. With new props, I’m in for 30$ and I already fixed the camera took me an hour or so.

Haha. I don’t know them that well. It’s my first time getting into it. Research and learn.

The most expensive part is usually the labor cost. They won't just replace the broken bit and hand it back to you. They would have to diagnose to make sure nothing else was damaged. Otherwise they did be liable for further repairs. E.g. they replace the plate, 1 week later you came back with the camera/gimbal not working. You could blame them that they damaged it while they replaced the plate.

Thats a good theory, and DJI does what many manufacturers dealers do. They replace, they don't repair. Sometimes you dont need a whole gimbal, just a plate and ribbon, and DJI doesnt do that.

Thats why there are millions of auto repair shops to repair your car other than the dealer, and that's why Thunderdrones exists in the drone market.

It's quicker for them to just have a quick look, offer to replace and so the customer doesn't have to wait. I guess they don't like customer hassling them about the progress of their repairs, especially if they are busy. Those broken drones sit on the shelf until there's a bit of downtime for their techs to repair, which then sits on the shelf to be used as replacements or sell as refurbished.
There'll always be a market for repairers like you. Some people to want their drone back, not some other refurbished one. It's cheaper too, compared to DJI, which is usually a fixed price, regardless of actual cost to repair, cos they won't know until they get someone to look at it. They win if its a simple fix, they lose if they can't repair. Well, if they can't repair, they destroy/recycle. They already made money selling the original drone, and got paid for the replacement. They just have 1 less refurbished drone.
