Got my new Mavic 2 and woke up to a TFR ?!

My Mavic 2 Pro came in the mail and got it all charged up and ready to go. I did a quick 5 minute "up and down" yesterday to test a few things. Today was the big day and......an almost statewide TFR in the Texas/Gulf Coast region !! What are the odds ? I figure it was because of the Democratic debate in Houston last night and maybe they're all leaving today. Argh...

Yea, we had one covering eastern Long Island a couple of weeks ago. Maybe one of the big wigs vacationing in the Hamptons.

The scary thing is that I used AirMap and there was no mention of a TFR but it showed up on Kittyhawk. Lesson learned. I should probably get in the habit of checking the primary source from the FAA and not rely on apps.

What part of the island are you near? I’m in Sc now but born and raised in Ronkonkoma.

Temporary Flight Restriction. The FAA will declare a certain airspace temporarily restricted like over a stadium during the Super Bowl or an area that has an airshow.

You should always check for TFR's and NOTAM's in the area you intend to fly in.

Congrats on escaping would could be a great place to live except for the high taxes and oppressive regulations.
