Hi everyone. I’m a new drone pilot (mavic mini) and I currently live near Southampton, however I shall soon be moving back home to Essex (Clacton area). It would be nice to hear if there are any places that I can fly and equally any that I absolutely must fly. Thanks. Mark

Welcome to this wonderful and very international forum. I have a number of places you “must” fly. However, they are all in Northern California! Not convenient to your beautiful home I realize. Using this forum enables one to see so many low level personal photographic adventures from around the world. Enjoy

Mark, Welcome to the forum from Chicago the Windy City.
Enjoy your MM, today in the Chicago area winds are 20 mph with and gusts up to 27 mph. Not a good day for me to fly. :-( If I did would kiss my MP good bye, I have a wind gauge, not using the finger method.
I like to fly safely, having a check list, preventive maintenance works for me. I am going to share with you 3 out of the six things you should know about flying your MM. #1 Wind speeds in excess of the design limits of the Aircraft. #2. Lost/damaged props or motor problems, leading to loss of propulsion. #3. Power interruption due to battery disconnects. There are three others that cause most flight control problems. Give you a clue, GNSS/
IMU/ and FC/IMU. Let you look into those last three, more complicated to explain. Just want to give you a heads up, so you don't have to use the find my drone feature. Please read your Manual, understand the RTH feature in the event you have to use it. Fly Safe and have fun

Welcome to our Forum, Smee, from the friendly skies of Texas!

The Mini was a good choice. Despite its small size and low price, it has good performance and a reasonably good camera. The Mini weighs only 249 grams, so it doesn't fly as well in wind as well as the heavier drones. On windy days, it’s best to fly upwind so that you’ll have a tailwind on the way back.

Read the manual, and practice using “Find My Drone”. Chances are you'll crash and/or lose your Mini. Don't wait until that happens to learn how to recover a lost drone. Lots of fun stuff to shoot all over the UK. When you have questions, there are over 100,000 of us here to help you be a better pilot and photographer. Just ask!

Happy flying!
