Went for a flight this afternoon, used auto take off successfully the first time, flew around for a bit. Decided to try out return to home to see how well it worked. Was in a wide open area. Return to home worked, decided to take off again using auto take off. The drone made it about 1m into the air, started moving forward with no control input and the the motors stopped and the drone fell to the ground.

Gimbal broken, lens came off, now I need to send it into DJI for repair. wow, dont know what happened.

Seems like a bug in the firmware.. looks like I won't be using auto take off for a while. Sucks cause I actually was looking foward to the one handed take off  thanks a lot Dji for not thorouly testing their firmware causing people drones to limp out like that. Thanks again DJI :mad:Thumbswayup

Using us as their guinea pigs.. it's just messed up. I wonder if it happens only with the new DJI go app the 4 one.

"Seems like".... A pretty harsh conclusion based on a pure guess. We need more facts and data before we come to that conclusion.

You're right not bashing I would make love to it if I could haha. In all honesty is seems like it there's already a couple threads popping up about this..

What facts and data would you like? Seems like three people have had this exact problem.

Stop whining. You can't take off with one hand, either way. As if it's too much work to raise the throttle and pay attention to what you're doing.

DJI gave me a label within 5 mins of submitting the ticket. Dropped it off at UPS but the next pickup is not until tuesday.

There appears to be alot of confusion about this going around? Firmware 1.03.000 has been out for nearly 3 weeks and I have not seen an issue with auto take off until now. DJI Go 4 for iOS has been out for about a week? Are these incidents actually related to the Go 4 app recently released for Android??

One thing I did note when this happened: I slid over the automatic take off, then watched the drone with my hands on the controls in case something went wrong. It reached its normal height for take off (1.2m) started to slightly move forward and before I could do anything the motors stopped and the drone fell. The motors did not restart again. I looked down at the screen and there was an IMU error on the screen which was not there when I used my phone to automatically take off. Maybe the IMU error has something to do with it?

I illustrated the disadvantage of multiple threads. After chasing down the three threads (are there more?) I won't be using auto takeoff till we learn what's going on.

Get a lanyard attachment and just throttle up off your hand, that's what I'm going to do when the lanyard device comes in. I want to fly it a lot on kayak trips here in Alaska this summer and not many flat areas to take off from without lots of sand to get in the motors

Sent from my iPhone using MavicPilots

What kind of lanyard are you going to use? I have an iPhone 7+ btw

Conflicting info. Some say it's the App update (the thing on your phone or device that shows the video feed) while others are claiming the Firmware update (the stuff inside that makes your drone fly)

I think you are mistaken . . . you chose to be the guinea pig . . .This is "bleeding edge" technology. You have to expect there are kinks and deal with it. If you want mature tech, "fly a kite" . . . oh sorry I did not mean Go Fly one . . that just was the first thing came to mind.

Alternately, you can "learn from the mistake of others, cause you'll never live long enough to make them all yourself"

I mean I guess haha. It is pretty bleeding edge though and I get it. When the PlayStation Vita was released all the first batches had screen blotch problems with their OLEDs and I was one of the first among many who received two defective units..I just think there should be better testing before releasing a product that could potentially cause damage or personal injury. All this talk about "fly aways" and toilet death spins is making me second guess although I have mine still on preorder with an extra batt. And will see so for myself.
