Current England lockdown and flying status?

One thought I just wanted to check with you about permissions to fly in EU countries. Correct me if I am wrong but as I understand it, while the EASA rules apply in the UK and the EU, each country requires you to register and/or pass a test and/or pay a fee which may be different from country...

Current England lockdown and flying status?

I think it's ok to fly in the UK now providing you're registered, display the Operator ID on the Drone and keep to the rules below 400ft for you drone type. I have to say though that I am still unsure about my local rules in public parks and the council byelaws. Seems they are still hostile...

    First Flight: United Kingdom

I know that park and town. Best to check with the parks trust if it's ok to fly there, I asked and it wasn't permissible to fly anywhere. If it is ok, then I will go fly there too.

Teenager using drone at Australian beach spots Great White Shark mere feet from oblivious swimmers

You only usually hear the bad news about drones and their flyers. Since all the fuss is about the dangers of drones to people, wildlife and property does this one help to redress the balance when human lives are saved? Lets' have more of these reports in the news and hopefully convince people...

    Real world meaning of VLOS

I'm 65 and have floaters in my field of vision so I see loads of drones all the time :) ... What happens when we develop cataracts or other vision impairments but could still see the screen ? Would we have to stop flying ? Regulations on this may vary from country to country too.

    Real world meaning of VLOS

In UK it means the UAV must be visible by the operator and by that I mean the person flying the UAV as by the new definition the Operator can be the drone owner and not the flyer, at all times. This presents an issue as the weather and time of day will play a part. Lights on the drone would...

    DJI mini battery crisis

The Batteries are on the website as viewed from the UK at £45 each but out of stock at the moment. There is a button to press to be notified when they are back in stock so I assume they are not fibbing about that. Note that the Chinese are all on holiday for two weeks so there may be a delay to...

    London pilots

I will follow this thread as I too am struggling to find places to fly in the south east of the UK. I got my Mavic Mini before xmas and then started to look for legal places to fly locally... contacted no end of authorities and got "the computer says no" response to all. The Richmond park area...

    Travelling with Mavic Mini

As stated by others, there are many threads on this topic on the forums but for what it is worth here is my two penneth worth... Rechargeable batteries, especially Lithium based should be checked in in hand luggage. Some suggest fireproofing them in special protective bags. Regardless of that...

    Mavic mini January update

Two things: 1) Software/firmware updates for the current model happen all the time but not to a schedule as far as I know, only as bugs/features are coded, tested and released. Last was in Dec 2019 I think. Currently: Date: 2019.12.31 Aircraft Firmware: v01.00.0400 Remote Controller...

Drone recovered from lake will it still work

Has anyone experience of floats that attach to the Mavic mini ? They look like two round poles made of foam plastic. Do they work? do they destabilize ? do they affect handling in wind?

I want to solder wires directly to mavic minii

An interesting idea and one that many RC model owners contemplate. You did not say what your objective was but I therefore assume it is to extend the range and flight time of the mavic mini up to one and a half hours ? A few things to consider perhaps (you may already have done so, this s for...

    Compass calibration every flight

Yes, me too ... in fact it usually takes several attempts and I am a bit fumbly in my old age and find the process difficult when holding the drone and trying to rotate it. Perhaps DJI will come out with a gimbal like cradle that can orientate and rotate the drone to set the compass every time...
