I don't know if any differences regarding the sensors exist between the MP and the MP2, but I do know for the MP2 that the side sensors only work in "T" mode along with the front and rear sensors. In P-GPS mode, only the front and rear sensors work, and in "S" (Sport) mode none of them work.
