This is no longer true. Drone-Hacks.com has successfully cracked many drones, actually all of the drones that use the DJI Fly app.

For the Mini 2 he'd need to use drone-hacks.com as it's not supported by No Limit Drones. Regardless of what anyone says it will not void your warranty. Highly recommended.
