Recreational Flyer and Part 107 Dual Registration ?

Definitely register them as part 107. I always have to chuckle at the suggestion that you fly "recreational rules" when you have Pt. 107. All of the underlying rules of UAS flight are defined in Pt. 107 and 44809 is simply a set of restrictions that let you fly without the certification. If you...

Drones Flying Over State Fair in TN Seized

The Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary stops just north of Copalis Beach. The following is a snapshot of the FAA Seattle Sectional Chart. The solid blue line with the blue dots inside show the outline of the marine sanctuary. Long Beach is well south of the sanctuary.

Drones Flying Over State Fair in TN Seized

It's actually not the FAA that has say over places like Cannon Beach - it's NOAA and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. All of the small islands and sea stacks along the Oregon coast (1853 of them) are considered protected wildlife refuges and the rules are explicit that you cannot fly under...

DJI Let me down and cheesed my melon

Must be quite lovely to sit outside when the Air National Guard is practicing.

That big one to the west looks like it's in a direct line to the runways at PDX.

State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

The policy covers whatever is on the receipt you gave them a copy of when you got the policy. When I lost a Mavic 3 they covered the cost of the whole Fly More package even though I only lost the drone, battery, and SD card. If you add other items to your policy they are separate from the...

State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

Loss, theft, or damage. The policy for the drones specifies recreational use. I do have a Pt. 107 and my drones are registered as Pt. 107 but I do not engage in commercial work.

State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

Curious - I have over $15,000 worth of camera gear and drones on my State Farm personal articles policy. My camera gear has been covered for over 15 years now. When I did lose a drone they covered the entire amount I paid for the Mavic 3 Fly More package even though I only lost the drone.

    Hoodman's 40 Year History.

I have been using their loupes on my DSLR/mirrorless cameras for almost 20 years now. They have always made nice toys.

Trump proposes beyond visual line of sight flights

The NPRM seems to assume that everyone needing BVLOS is flying an autonomous drone over 55lb. in programmed flight only.

Trump proposes beyond visual line of sight flights

Their summary is a good one for the Part 108 certificates. Additionally worth noting is that all BVLOS operations will be subsumed into the Part 108 rules. Existing Part 107 BVLOS waivers will be folded into Part 108 as the waivers expire. The Part 108 rules do not change existing 44809 and...

Trump proposes beyond visual line of sight flights

The real info is on the Dept. of Transportation web site and if you are up for it the proposal (all 731 pages of it) are here as a PDF. The proposal calls for a final draft within 240 days. Edit: This is an update to the original BLVOS proposal that came out a couple of years ago and was...

State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

I have had my personal articles policy with State Farm for over 15 years now covering my camera equipment. My drones are not the big ticket items in this policy and the agents know me from ongoing changes to the policy items as I have swapped out and added camera bodies and lenses through the...

State Farm Insurance instead of DJI Care

Bear in mind that when State Farm tells you that your policy has been cancelled that is specific to the serial number of the unit that was lost. When I requested new coverage for the serial number of the replacement drone (a Mavic 3 in my case) they had no issue adding this to my policy. For...
