Yes I can confirm that as I did a manual vertical descent in sport mode at 10m/s and thought the auto landing sensors would kick in but they don't! Rather a hard landing and broke the camera ribbon in the process. So to quickly disable the auto sensors just switch to sport mode using the side...
If the retailer accept to exchange then that's the first step. Once you get the new AC you have tho email to DJI care refresh and give them the old AC serial, the replacement AC serial and also a copy of any exchange paperwork the retailer might have provided. It wasn't any drama for me with DJI...

For your suggested arrangement you could drill in to the top of the bottom battery and then solder on the second battery cells to the main battery board...
Check out and install "no root fire wall" that can stop the DJI app from connecting to the server and therefore checking for any updates on its software.
Line of sight is a hard and fast rule, no doubt, so no one can argue with you on that, but it is relevant to risk and flying over empty landscapes never seems boring to me.......maybe you are in the wrong hobby if this is what you really think, but it's your choice as I say live and let live.
Your Mavic......your choice. You don't need to worry about others spending habits or their perception of what is useful or otherwise. By all means chip in with comments about your maximum flight distance using your very portable drone.
