If you want free apps that will stay free, don't discount FOSS. Gimp is a pretty good image editor, but with a learning curve.
For video editing, there is Kdenlive, I've never used it, but it has been getting good reviews
Which part was not true? That the RID phone apps provide a less than optimal experience for the end users, or that Dronetag RIDER is priced outside the reach or desire of most consumers?
Next time you see a drone in the wild, go for it and see how easy it is to track it down and the owner. I bet you stand less than a 50/50 chance of getting the details. An IOS or Android app with that kind of record is deleted and never used...
And most of them are not good out in the wild. The radios in most phones are not optimized for this sort of task. A device like Dronetag RIDER is designed for RDI tracking and is priced way beyond what most consumers would pay.
Almost everyone has a cell phone and can download a RID detection app for free.
