When I first got my drones I use to check it on the map. But after always finding it in the right spot on the map I stopped doing it. But I do wait to hear the notice or see it pop up on the screen
For me it’s the direction I fly. If I fly west from my place I can get almost 1/2 mile if I fly north I can get a little over 1.25 miles if I fly east I get about .5 mile if I fly south I have gotten over 2 miles.
I had 1 on my mini 1 and mini 2 and worked great. Until I was flying in windy conditions and the guard would show up in the camera view. I did not notice that it was affecting the controlling of the drones. Just could see it on the wind side.
I have 3 DJI drones and I can fly any of them without a gps signal. Do it all the time at work inside the building. If I take them outside and they get a gps signal I can’t fly because it’s in a no fly zone. And it will automatically land.

I got mine last Friday and put them on. And they looked great and had no problems with them. Flew for about 45 minutes on 2 batteries with no problems. After seeing the video on YouTube I checked mine while idling and no vibrations at all. Oh they were the orange ones.
