To be fair, I think it's good advice for most people to just avoid the situation entirely. I highly doubt the average drone owner knows or considers anything more than the ultra basic things in the TRUST test, if they even took it. I think the... -

There are plenty of things to 'spy' on there. It may or may not have been the airport itself. Perhaps they were 'spying' on something more specific like a particular flight, plane (not necessarily a commercial airliner), routine/process...
