Welcome Image Gets A Bit Annoying

I'm on Firefox, never seen it that I can recall - I open links from the weekly update to read them. It may be possible that I've bypassed it by setting my browser to block pop-ups.

Pervert and stalking fears from drones in Australia.

For me, the most telling point is the one MAvic_South_Oz made.... proper journalism relies upon getting both sides of the story, such as a statement from at least a licenced UAV operator, if not THE UAV operator that was involved. Unfortunately, that would likely have removed the opportunity for...

Advice before takeoff & landing from a boat

If you decide you absolutely must hand catch a drone, at least get yourself a pair of decent gloves as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) - At a minimum, there are grade 5 Cut Resistant gloves available, this is the level of glove recommended for use in the glass industry. I would be tempted...

Flying thru an arch, tunnel, etc.

A lot of good advice above - as well as watching out for dangling things that can get caught in the props, you need to keep enough distance from the roof that the air draw from above the props doesn't pull your drone into the roof, it's probably only an issue in very tight spaces though.

    lost in remote location

Plus one for Mavic_SouthOz's suggestion for isopropyl alcohol. Having a background in electronics, it is my preferred cleaner for circuit boards. Metho comes in a close second if you can't get the isopropyl. The alcohol/metho will evaporate at much lower temperatures than water but depending...

    Wrecked My Little Mini 2

There is a post on the forums where a pilot had the motor/s jam up because the lug that holds the prop to the motor came off and jammed the motor. I believe this was after an earlier crash where the propellers did not appear damaged, so the pilot continued to use them. If the drone has...

    Would RADAR interfere?

That's a shame... I was really happy to get shots from Mt Canobolas, although I'm sure they're not fantastically entertaining as my first attempt, it gave me ideas about what I could try next. (Footage is here for any masochists among you - YouTube ) I wanted to get some creative shots of...

    Would RADAR interfere?

In NSW, you can apply for permission to fly a drone to take videos in National Parks - I did this recently at Mt Canobolas near Orange. The Rangers were very helpful and processed my application in record time as I hadn't confirmed the dates of my visit until less than a week beforehand. They...

    Scottymakesstuff.Com cases words of caution

Thanks to this post for alerting me to the Cine Sticks, I've bodged together a solution for my other RC transmitter but hadn't thought about doing that for the Mavic. When I saw that Scotty was in Australia I was interested - I then worked out they were located in my home town some 360Km (200...

Guy flying his drone with an AR-15 on him checking police activity from his house

Glad it ended OK.... The cops shouldn't have said he was overhead without the evidence, BUT: the reason provided by the person for why he was out there did not make sense to an LEO who is trying to work out what's going on, i.e. there was "someone out there , the person came out to see what was...

When flying, how do you deal with your "Monkey Mind"

I'm amused by the concept of concentrating 100% on flying the drone - that in itself requires a continual scanning of the controls, any interface for battery, GPs, visual or other positional information, the drone itself for VLOS and checking direction and flight stability, the skies around for...

What Do You Use To Carry Your Gear.....??

Yes, you're absolutely right - that was among the odds and ends, along with a small hand-held scanner to monitor for aircraft operating in my area (I was outside the 3nm radius of the regional airport) :)

What Do You Use To Carry Your Gear.....??

I recently visited Mount Canobolas near Orange NSW, and tried to visit Federal Falls to get some footage (with relevant approval from Parks & Wildlife Service). I was using a pretty standard backpack to carry the M2P, 3 batteries, some odds and ends and a ~ 3Kg bucket of brickie's sand, just...

Flying the Mavic inside an empty LPG Gas Tank - is it possible?

Quite apart from the potential safety and technical issues you would face - including effectively being in a Faraday cage, and confined spaces controls needed (which would specify documented assessment of and controls for all the risks identified), etc there are other considerations. For such...

    I am amazed by this...

There's clear vision of a runway that the drone is almost directly in line with...... and on the subject of bird strike, while a jet engine is designed to tolerate ingestion of some level of organic matter (which can still cause huge problems), the ingestion of a drone with the added issue of...
