    Disappointed with distance

The frequency the Mavic communicates at is very susceptible to obstruction (line of sight). I get out 2.5 miles with some degradation of the video signal... but usually sufficient to fly. At that distance, I usually have to be at 300-400ft altitude. Ascending will always improve your signal if...

    RTH Tragedy

I fly in and around trees all the time. I edit my RTH settings every time I lift off. I typically use a rather high RTH altitude to get above all trees (the tall trees in this area are up to 65m). If I will be spending time filming under overhead obstacles... I disable RTH and set the...

    Birds...how scared should I be?

I see a lot of birds with my Mavic. I fly in the Puget Sound region and film the natural environment, using mainly a Mavic Pro. Crows and water birds are unconcerned with the Mavic, especially if you are flying slow (it is quieter this way). I have gotten many great shots flying just 15 feet...

New Mavic Pro Platinum Combo Owner

Mauro, A tidbit: I have found that using an Ipad Mini 4 (or newer) gives you greater acuity when flying the Mavic. Better Much better than a 5" phone. You may need a cellular able Ipad, or use a phone as a hotspot so you can load maps. Have fun! Take your time to learn the automated features...

Homeowner Claims Airspace Up To 500 ft Above His House - Legal?

I live 10 minutes out of town, in a rural, but populated area. I have flown hundreds of times... often over my neighbors property, with no problems. Here is what I did: When I meet any of my neighbors under normal circumstances, I mention that I occasionally fly a drone in the area in the...

An Airline Pilot's Checklist for Mavic Pro

I definitely agree! I have flown airplanes AND I own a Mavic. Mavics are small and relatively well automated (managed), and with a modicum of precaution and common sense... generally safe, and acceptable for even a novice flier to learn with. It is NOT the same risks as flying an airplane. So...

    Mavic "Pro" 2?

I just used one of the Z3 cameras (Osmo +). Very noisy for the price, almost unacceptably so. The Mavic Pro camera is also noisy... but more tolerable somehow. (and fine for a $1000 drone)

    Unbelievable!!

I am fairly certain that for every 1 microlight under 400 ft, there are 99 Mavics at 1000ft. ; ) Just sayin'.

Flying Over Water - Some Results and Tips

I have flown/filmed over water quite a bit. At 3m or more... everything has been very stable, with all Vision Positioning Sensors on.

Anti crash sensors? what a joke

My POI trick when around trees/objects is: Get set up at the distance and altitude you want, then face 90 deg to the side and fly ONE COMPLETE circle first (so you can see the circular path), then if all looks OK, face back to center, frame up your shot and you are safe!

Mavic hits a tree branch regained balance and stability. After a minute critical error and fly away!

Wau. Error and reconnect at 8000ft out would scare the crap out of me. Nice job bringing it in!

Drone crashes into car on Sydney Harbour Bridge.

If there is a silver lining to this: The Mavic is relatively small compared to other drones up there, this makes is less likely to kill or injure someone than a larger drone. Smacking a car? It would have dented it, but otherwise... the driver is safe as can be (unless they swerve, or some such).

DJI Goggles Finally here, but illegal!

Please FAA catch up to the times! Goggles provide a more immersive experience and glare free view than line of sight flying. I can't see what attitude my Mavic is ANYWAY in after it is 100 ft out, because it is small and black... so always tend to fly by screen anyway. I only fly by sight when I...

NFZ Limit Cannot Take Off After .600 Firmware

I had my first 'incident' since the update: I was taking video of a historic building in the city at 160' altitude... I also got the NFZ warning, and somehow, Mavic decided to force land. It landed, by itself, with no video feed, 3 blocks away... on the hood of an automobile in the middle of the...
