He is actually using stock props. Yes, maybe it was'nt quite "vertical". However, it did lose power and could not provide enough lift to sustain flight. The whole flight was actually only 60 meters in length approx.
What props is you brother using? It looks like the spark can achieve a 1.9 thrust ratio with standard props. This would certainly limit your angle of flight. Ballparking,around 45deg before losing altitude
