I think it is common sense to make a system check before every flight. I mean, pilots do this every time before they fly. It is not like it takes forever. So, the way I look at it.. expensive lesson learned for you, and NOTE to be taken for everyone else.. SYSTEM CHECK before taking flight...

Or.... you can fly conservatively with your Mavic, understand your learning curve as a new operator! Watch different tips on YouTube on how to best operate your drone! It's NOT rocket science!

So, I have been watching Youtube videos and the DJI videos, and in reference to calibrating the Mavic, it says to keep away from metallic objects. So, I have metal screws in my back and a metal hip, is this going to present an issue when calibrating. Also, we know belt buckles, watches, phones...

Sounds like pilot error to me, no matter how you slice it. The mavic is not the Phantom 4, and having not flown it, to see how it responds etc.. and ensuring that all equipment that can be removed (ie props) are fixed properly. Sucks.. I am sure.. but I bet you never make that mistake again!
