Who knows. I mostly fly M3s now. Enterprise and consumer. They never ask for calibration and I travel a hundred miles often. The Phantoms 3 and 4s that I used to use a lot never did either. But the M2 is an attention hog. Maybe it's just the one I have.

My Mavic 2 Pro also is a "Calibrate my Compass" queen. None of the other drones ever ask. If I remember correctly, it is a "feature" of the firmware because DJI was having issues in the Inspire 2, I think..maybe. Maybe others with the M2s don't have this issue, I don't know. Mine certainly...

DJI no longer has geofencing in the US. No unlocks to worry about with DJI. To fly in an area covered by LAANC, I use Aloft Air Control. Either on desktop, or mobile app. You need a free account. https://www.aloft.ai/feature/laanc/

Was it on an autonomous mission? You said it just stopped, but then you said you could control it is why I ask. It obviously did not loose control, only video downlink. Can you power it on now and everything is normal or no video feed?

You certainly could do it. You just need the camera, video transmitter, and a power source on the M3. Then a video receiver and screen of your choice at your ground station. Go for it!

You are lucky that DJI must still have A3S stock in Texas. If it needed to come from stock out of the country, DJI would be willing, but US customs, not so much. My UPS delivery also made it today. Nothing as fun as an A3S though!
