The question should be better at what. They are very different and each has advantages over the other. Best is a personal decision depending on your unique needs. You can get into real trouble trying to be absolute about a subjective topic. IMO.

Ah the tourist. The perfect way to ruin any shot.

One of the most important aspect of battery is how well the cells are balanced. One bad cell will bring down the whole battery. Under the menu options in safety is battery. That will allow you to see how well the cells are balanced. One bad cell and you should ditch the battery.

Batteries can be difficult when not used. Charge and discharge a few time and then run your tests. Lith Ion doesn't have a memory problem so they should be OK.

You didn't buy from him, so he's not going to help. I understand, but that's not the way to insure a future sale in exchange for a little time. I think that is referred to as short sighted.

The golden hours are a photographers best friend. Everything looks better around sunrise and sunset. Just keep trying, you will get some amazing shots and then a string of duds. Part of the learning process.
