Beyond Visual Line of Sight Rating (BVLOS)

The discussions seem to be between strict VLOS and “open the flood gates”. My original thought (posted somewhere) was just to “open the door” but just a crack. Put a reasonable cap on distance (and how do you judge distance if you can’t see it?), and altitude. The chance of encountering a...

Beyond Visual Line of Sight Rating (BVLOS)

I could really go for something on the order of “below 300’ AGL, and maybe 1000 yards for Commercial Pilots and above in uncontrolled airspace (Class G)”. There’s an awful lot that would need to be hashed out but the restriction of VLOS is so arbitrarily restrictive. I want to take pictures of...

HELP! Totally confused about phone/tablet compass need and purpose.

Ah Yes..... YouTube! Where “wanna be experts” can post videos of their face and attempt to present technical information. Unfortunately, it looks like most of these folks have no real idea of how to present information in a logical, understandable progressive sequence. To be effective there...

    Mavic Air 2 Catch Handle

Looks Like it would be handy in your environment. Usually being with a vehicle, I generally launch/recover on the hood. Keeps it away from the abrasive materials that are everywhere. Pay them no mind ......... bad day?

HELP! Totally confused about phone/tablet compass need and purpose.

So what it all boils down to is “Ya get what ya pay for!” I’d pay even a little more for a users/owners manual that was useable. There’s so much here that i have no idea what’s going on. Someone that was really knowledgeable could really pick up some $$$ if they’d put on a face-to-face class...

New Mavic Air Owner from Cumming, GA

Well, “Welcome to the group!” New here myself (2 months). There’s so much to learn and the manual wasn’t a lot of help. Likewise, a number of the YouTube offerings. So many of them have no real focus, it’s just some guy with a drone and a camera. That being said however, there are several...

Where are most people launching from?

I generally launch and recover on the hood of my Chev Tahoe. So often the ground is not really clean (not that my hood is all that clean either but at least the “dirt” isn’t loose) and I try and keep my Air 2 away from dirt/sand/gravel etc. I pop the hood, get out and raise it an inch or two...

    Not my proudest moment

Same basic location, same thoughts (but later in the day, after the snow stopped). Checked the manual for operating temperatures (we’re above that - barely), did the necessary FAA request, approved, launched! We live at a “T” intersection (right at the top). Up to 100’, flew down the middle...

    Federal stimulus

I’m with MavicairLou1. Bought my wife (well actually “we” bought) a Husqvarna Epic 2 sewing machine. [$17,000]. When I wanted to get the MA2 package it didn’t EVEN cause a ripple! Of course she’s doing some sewing now and picking up a few bucks here and there while I’m making reasons to go...

Fess up- Have you broken the VLOS rule? (poll)

VERY WELL PUT! Visual acuity being as it is, at any distance beyond 3 or 400 feet it’s virtually out of sight against the sky and if it‘s against any other background (trees, brush, etc.), forget it. The drone is grey, the sky is typically varying shades of grey and the military paints its...

    Drone lights red/green...odd orientation

It only makes “sense”! Green on the right, red on the left and white on the back. Has worked worldwide on ships and airplanes since 18 something.

Love the way the main gear retracts on the F8F. Only plane I know that does that!

Found MA2 - how to find owner

If you have a “toy” that flys on its own and costs more than a little bit, it only seems logical to have your email or SOMETHING on it in case it gets lost.

    Drone lights red/green...odd orientation

Yup, like I said, “the left stick is like the collective”. But it’s backward! Pulling on an aircraft yoke/stick takes you up, pulling the collective in a helo takes you up. Pulling the left stick with the drone makes you go down. Most folks have never flown an airplane but many have flown...
